When All You Have...

"You, God, are my God,

earnestly I seek you;

I thirst for you,

my whole being longs for you,

in a dry and parched land

where there is no water.

I have seen you in the sanctuary

and beheld your power and your glory.

Because your love is better than life,

my lips will glorify you.

I will praise you as long as I live,

and in your name I will lift up my hands.

I will be fully satisfied as with the richest of foods;

with singing lips my mouth will praise you.

On my bed I remember you;

I think of you through the watches of the night.

Because you are my help,

I sing in the shadow of your wings.

I cling to you;

your right hand upholds me.

Those who want to kill me will be destroyed;

they will go down to the depths of the earth.

They will be given over to the sword

and become food for jackals.

But the king will rejoice in God;

all who swear by God will glory in him,

while the mouths of liars will be silenced."

-Psalm 63

This scripture was included in a letter from my mother to me around 2008/2009. Never had scripture perfectly displayed my own heart before. Words can never express the deep affection, gratitude, and admiration I have for my mother and her godly leadership.

I reread her letter tonight as it is tucked away in my prayer journal. Although this is very personal, I've felt deeply compelled to share pieces of it tonight/this morning.

Some of the words in the letter that followed were:

...Please do not grow weary. How long was Moses in the wilderness before his purpose was revealed through the burning bush? How much did Joseph endure before he was exalted- and he was used over and over for God. How about Daniel? ... Stand back. You never know when you might see a bush aflame! Expect the unexpected.... Read Psalm 63. I thought of you- When your soul longs for Him (the Lord), the way you long for answers, if you begin to think of Him in your bed the way you think of other things, when you realize that His love is better than life, when all your individual strength and independence (which is considerable) is gone and all you have to hold you up is His right hand and the breath from His mouth- then .... you will find answers to questions you never knew you had and your relationship with your Lord will go to a depth never thought possible and those things that you think are so important that they are robbing you of your sleep, time and your health- they will cease to matter!

You are my song- Love, Mom.

When all you have, beloved. When all you have is Him. When you realize all you need is Him. Nothing else matters.

Kathryn.
